As the title says the trip is not all rainbows and butterflies. Don’t get me wrong overall it has been amazing so far but there have been some frustrations along the way, so let’s go through them.
- Inconsistent hot showers: I love a nice long hot shower, but in our airbnb in Dubrovnik that was not the case. The first night I probably waited about 30 min for the water to get hot only for that moment never to come. I started fiddling with the hot water heater and asking Gemini how do I use this (because it’s in another language) In the end I needed to take a shower and I had to woman up and get in that freezing cold water. I was not happy, particularly since Aaron said his was hot. The next day my plan was to take a shower before him to experience what he was talking about. I got in there and it felt great but about 2-3 minutes in that temperature started shifting and it started decreasing rapidly. Luckily I hadn’t been standing around thinking about life and had actually started bathing so I could hurry up and get out of there. This was my experience for a week and it was even worse on the days I had to wash my hair, but what can you do.
- Not having certain appliance: Going in this we knew would not have all the cooking supplies we were used to but it’s still a frustration. The Dubrovnik airbnb didn’t have a stove, microwave, nor a toaster. Now this may not be seem so bad, but when you’re cooking two meals a day this can get frustrating. Anytime we want some toast for breakfast we had to heat it up in a pan. Anytime we want to reheat leftovers, you have to throw it in a pot or pan and wait about 5-10 minutes. This isn’t ideal when you’re a person who occasionally gets hangry.
- Not understanding how to Use Appliances: Typically appliances are self explanatory but my stove and oven in Krakow were not. They either have very little symbols or symbols I don’t understand. For the stove I had to keep pressing buttons until finally one worked and only because my finger lingered a little longer. Below is the stove.

These were the symbols I was working with for the oven.

Some of these symbols I’ve seen before but I still wasn’t familiar with them. It’s frustrating when you’re in the middle of prepping and as you’re getting ready to turn the oven on, you relative you can’t even read what it says. Also it doesn’t let you know when it’s preheated.
4. Drying my clothes: I already know most places don’t have dryers so I came prepared with my own clothes line. I washed my laundry before I went to bed and set the clothes to dry on the balcony. I figured by the morning they should be dry, I was wrong but they were mostly dry. After a full day out I checked on them again and they were actually wet. The balcony is enclosed but the glass was cracked a little and it was raining today, but the clothes shouldn’t have been this wet. With my current plan not working I had to deconstruct my clothes line and from a new one inside with some chairs after dealing with them falling a couple of times.
