Diversity

Reconnecting with my friend Olivia, who I met 8 years ago in Cuba

Of the 4 European cities I visited I didn’t see a lot of black people which isn’t completely surprising. Munich and Dubrovnik had the most and Prague /Krakow the least. I think the majority of the black people in Dubrovnik were tourists. Munich was the only city where there was a sort commradery. Often times when traveling there’s kind of an unspoken kinship when a black person sees another black person and there’s often a smile, nod or even words. In regards to diversity unsurprisingly Munich is the most diverse of this bunch but even then that doesn’t compare to the US. This is just simply an observation; there’s a lot of places I don’t expect to be diverse. In actuality most places in the world are not diverse. This is the longest I have been out of the US, so I think it’s a little more prevalent now. I could see how it would be a real culture shock coming to the US seeing so many different people. I really enjoy seeing and experiencing these other cultures, but it does make me appreciate the diversity in the US.

*** Side note: It’s interesting seeing what other ethnicities are very prevalent in a city. In Prague there’s a very high Vietnamese population, it’s the biggest population outside of Vietnam. Munich also has a large Turkish population.
